My college experience did not shaped up to be what I thought it was going to be because I experienced the love of Jesus expressed in the Gospel. I expected to go to college and live a party life so I could graduate to make money. And it is sad, my expectations going into college are normalized across America and even glorified. The life of work-to-play-hard mentality is the culture that permutates college campuses.
So, instead of trying to get out of college as soon as possible, I now am running back onto college campuses. In order to champion Jesus over everything, instead of the party life. I am raising support for my salary and my wife and I are opening our doors daily to college students in order that through the relationship we build someone them may leave behind their old lives to follow the way of Jesus.
In the final chapters of the Bible, there’s a picture that’s painted of what heaven will be like. This picture has driven nearly every aspect of our church and our lives.
This vision of all nations and people groups worshipping Jesus motivates us to take the Great Commission to "Go and make disciples of all nations" seriously.
It’s the only reason I am working for Resonate Church.
By God’s grace, we believe the most strategic starting point for Revelation 7:9-10, and the Great Commission is right on the University Campus. In fact, we often say,
"The road to the ends of the earth is paved through the university campus."
Why do we say this? Keep Reading.
1. College students are in the middle of the most influential time period of their lives.
Humans become who they will be for the rest of their lives during the years of 18-24 y.o.
2. College students are the most well-educated people in the world.
They become the business leaders, politicians, and visionaries of the future.
3. College students live within 1-2 square miles of each other.
They are reachable and live in community with one another.
4. College students are going to the ends of the earth after graduating.
If we can get the Gospel to college students today, they will take it across the globe tomorrow.
God's glory being experienced by people across the world is my heartbeat, my joy, and the driver for why I live the way I do.
And so it moves me to share the surpassing worth and beauty of Jesus- not just live morally good lives.
It moves me to make disciples who love and obey Jesus- instead of drawing people to our own advice and opinions.
It moves me to plant churches that bring the Kingdom of God to the darkest places- not just care for those in need.
This is what the Lord has called us to!
The need for new churches that reach college students is not unique to Montana.
Our vision is to begin a church planting movement that reaches all 403 major university campuses in North America.
